Comrade Carter is old and feeble now, hence he can't be seen as a figurehead for the revolution anymore. Come to think of it, when he was president he was just a little less old and feeble. I guess not alot has changed. My mind is still on the Vietnam War and the countless atrocities. Let's ignore that there's a good chance that it was just our benevolent leader, soon to be premeir... er, president, was sexing the story up a bit before the senate... or a lot... or to such a massive extent that it's FUBARed from what it originally was.

Joe really is a very sweet man, and I love him dearly, but he's not the "sharpest spoon in the drawer", if you take my meaning.
I mean who would YOU hire to attend ribbon-cutting ceremonies, glad-hand schmooze-fests, and State Dinners where if you don't smile as you eat the goat's eyeball, the natives get mortally offended...not really a job for Bill Gates or Donald Trump, right?
More like the gig for a game show host.
And what am I supposed to do in the meantime? The kids are off in college.
I guess I'm s'posed to swap recipes with the Mrs. Heap Big Cannibal Chief?...NOT!
Actually, the natives here are the sweetest folks on Earth...to us. With each other, though, they have this disquieting tendency to settle their disputes with AK-47's and machetes.
We're posted to West Africa, for God's sake...no Oprah, no Martha...I can't garden because there are snakes here that can kill you just by looking at you, I can't ride a bike because the traffic is more lethal than their snakes, and the Marine Security Guards at the Embassy are always in the gym,(although it IS nice to drop in on them every now and again). The beach is off-limits because the sewage plant is broken, and if you expose anything more than your ankle, you'll cause a religious riot...
I asked Joe if I should I get a part-time job, and he just mumbled something non-committal and muttered about some stupid bi-lateral trade agreement conflict.
I swear he paid more attention to me when we were back in the States and we could watch the NFL together.
So I got a job. I tried telling Joe about it, but he interrupted me to ask what was for dinner.
I shoulda known that he'd pay attention when they printed my name, and the name of my employer in the Washington Post.
Maybe next time I want to have a discussion with Joe, I'll submit it for publication in the "Foreign Service Journal".
Now he's off flacking for this Kerry fellow...what does he expect to gain? Another Ambassadorship to a West African nation?

If the USA did go communist, it would be the greatest thing that ever happened to it. Think of all those workers who will benefit from the public education, health care, and the pension!
A little less greed would go a long way.
